Abstract:
The clock alarm sounds; the toilet flushes; the kettle boils; the toaster pops; the door shuts; the car engine starts and off you go to work. These are all sounds that people hear daily and take for granted. What happens when you arrive at work? There is a nearby house alarm sounding; a car is parked nearby with the radio turned up full; a workman digs up the road with a pneumatic drill. These are all likely to be sounds that distract and disturb you, they are annoying and irritating. Noise is defined as ‘unwanted sound’, it is a form of environmental pollution and is sometimes a statutory nuisance.
