Abstract:

This paper is one of a set. Together, they spell out actions which could transform the lives of hundreds of millions of poor people and make the planet a better and safer place for our children and grandchildren.They say what needs to be done to achieve key targets for international development. The present paper is about the environment and its contribution to sustainable development. It looks at the critical need to integrate the environment into all aspects of development. It concludes that protection of the environment is not a technical issue.
