Abstract:I was pleased to be asked to continue the “Laying Down the Law” column which I wrote for ea Magazine, and hope that those who have read it before will similarly be pleased to see it again. The purpose of the column has always been to explore legal themes which have a practical impact for environmental management in all its facets. The relationship between science, risk and the law has been a recurrent issue in this column, and one which is attracting ever-increasing attention.
