| Synopsis: | This document sets out the Department of the Environment’s proposals for updating and amending the Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 (“the Wildlife Order”). Since it was brought into force in 1985 the Wildlife Order has served Northern Ireland’s wildlife well, however it is recognised that the Order is now over 20 years old and in need of review, particularly the lists of species that are provided specific protection. Therefore, the primary aim of the review is to ensure that the Wildlife Order continues to make an important contribution to conserving the diversity of Northern Ireland’s natural flora and fauna, and that it remains relevant and is correctly targeted. |
