| Synopsis: | Natural England’s Strategic Direction 2006-9 was published in June 2006 prior to the creation of Natural England. They said then that we would refresh their strategic direction over the next two years. Their draft Strategic Direction 2008-13 sets out what they want for the natural environment over the next five years and what type of role they expect to play in achieving these outcomes. |
"The refreshed document is a development of our four outcomes and represents a shift in strategy of around 10-15% to reflect the developments of the last eighteen months. Externally there have been changes in Government and the emergence of issues such as climate change which impact on many areas of our work. Internally we have undertaken further development of our thinking and delivered many of the targets set out in the original Strategic Direction. The original document was ‘an unusual document for unusual times’ part strategy and part corporate plan. This time we have focused on our strategy. Specific delivery actions and resourcing will be set out in our Corporate Plan 2008-11. Both our Strategic Direction and Corporate Plan will be underpinned by the evidence base contained within our State of the Natural Environment Report 2008, all three documents will be published in May 2008."
