Abstract:The Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) Directive sets out to prevent significant pollution from large industrial activities. Emissions to air, water and land, and the consumption of energy and other resources must be considered in an integrated way to provide a high level of protection for the environment as a whole. It is arguably the first legal instrument to require sustainable production techniques.
