Title:SEPA Climate Change Plan 2008 - 2012
Organisation:SEPA
Issued:Fri 14 December 2007
Deadline: 26 February 2008
Status: CLOSED Consultation is closed for comments
Synopsis:

SEPA’s State of Scotland’s Environment 2006 report identified climate change as the biggest threat facing Scotland’s environment with serious implications for the nation’s health and wellbeing.

SEPA’s policies, advice and guidance will have to keep pace with changing social and economic priorities as climate change considerations bear increasing weight on all sectors of society. SEPA also have a role in helping to develop and contribute to knowledge and understanding of the science and impacts of, and solutions to, climate change.

The consultation proposes a five year Climate Change Plan and discusses SEPA’s current baseline of activities in the context of climate change; our strategic aims and objectives for the period 2008– 2012; identifies actions that they will take across all of their business activities and functions to minimise emissions of greenhouse gases and build Scotland’s resilience to unavoidable climate change. SEPA propose to integrate strategic thinking on climate change into all of their activities.

SEPA will focus their efforts in the following key areas to meet the aims of the proposal:

  • Regulation – e.g. reducing emissions of greenhouse gases;
  • Provision of advice – e.g. how industry and businesses can minimise waste and improve energy and resource efficiency;
  • Environmental monitoring and analysis – e.g. assessing environmental trends and investigating impacts;li>
  • Demonstration of leadership and exemplary performance by minimising SEPA’s environmental impact;li>
  • Informing and influencing policy, both at home and internationally; and
  • Communicating information – e.g. flood warning.

The IEMA is seeking views from members on SEPA's proposals and will provide a response to the consultation.

Below is the consultation paper and the response form that must be used to provide comments on the consultation.
Responses must be provided by email to g.bower@iema.net no later than 26 February 2008
