CS1207 Scotland Central Constructed Wetlands Conference - 5-6 Dec 2007
Link to this Event | iCal | vCal
Summary
There is growing interest in the use of constructed wetlands to treat contaminated runoff from farm yards and associated buildings and tracks, driven by sustainability issues in relation to pumping contaminated rainwater to storage units for subsequent land application. There is also increasing recognition that even lightly contaminated drainage can be collectively significant as a source of nutrients faecal pathogens and other pollutants in sensitive catchments. The importance of constructed wetlands in the restoration of water quality in such catchments is a key focus of this meeting. The need for cost effective treatment options that are appropriate and can be maintained by non specialists, continues to be important for other rural sources of pollution too; a need for constructed wetlands? Several treatment options are considered in this conference; reedbeds, stabilisation ponds, retention ponds, and combinations of drainage features. The event is run by IEMA, with support from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and in association with the Constructed Wetlands Association. It is an international event and speakers will include: Rao Bhamidimari (New Zealand), Miklas Scholz (Germany), David Kay and Kate Heal (UK).
