EMS National Forum – Call for Papers

We are currently in the process of compiling the seminar programme for the EMS National Forum at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, London on the 26th November 2008.

The EMS National Forum has established itself as one of the key events for Environmental Management professionals and practitioners in the UK. The seminar programme is designed to provide networking opportunities and to generate a high level of delegate interaction in an informative and relaxed atmosphere.

The seminar programme aims to provide practitioners with the opportunity to identify and discuss issues around the practice and performance of EMS. The seminars are intended to introduce, discuss and evaluate challenges, practices, performance and solutions, within an overall theme of “moving beyond EMS: addressing the Sustainable Development agenda”.

The seminar programme is one of the key features at the event, and heavily promoted in pre show material. Preference will be given to papers provided in the context of the overall theme of the event.

The seminar programme will focus on the following key areas:

Theme 1: Introduction to EMS

  • Workshops designed to provide introductory information for individuals responsible for EMS implementation and organisations considering implementing an EMS.
  • Overview on how to get started (possible title)
  • Overview of EMS in practice (possible title)
  • Why EMS? Benefits in sustainable development
  • 3 x 1hr 15min sessions (1 session repeated in both workshops sessions)
  • 30 - 40 delegates maximum per session

Theme 2: EMS Solutions & Best Practice

  • For individuals with knowledge or experience of EMS looking for ways to improve their EMS
  • Linking EMS into CSR/SD (possible title)
  • Explanation of what accreditation is (possible title)
  • Environmental Performance Indicators and benchmarking (possible title)
  • Linking EMS and climate change (possible title)
  • 4 x 1hr 15min sessions
  • 30 - 40 delegates maximum per session

Theme 3: EMS as a Strategic Business Issue - Round Table Discussions

  • Experienced practitioners
  • For experienced EMS practitioners who would like to contribute to discussions on improving the practice and performance of EMSs
  • Delegates will have opportunities to debate, discuss and put comments forward rather than presentation format
  • Linking environmental strategy to EMS. More than a management tool! (possible title)
  • 2 x 2hr 30 mins (with a 30 min break in the middle)
  • 30 - 40 delegates maximum per session

Theme 4: EMS in the Public Sector

  • EMS Practitioners working in the public sector
  • A series of workshops focussing on issues specific to the public sector.
  • Integrating environmental issues into procurement
  • 4 x 1hr 15min sessions
  • 30 - 40 delegates maximum per session

We are now seeking seminar providers who wish to take advantage of this opportunity to place themselves face to face with an audience of environmental professionals. The demand for seminars is always very high and for 2008 we are asking all organisations and individuals wishing to submit a seminar for consideration, to complete a 'Seminar Proforma' and return by email no later than the 30th April to l.bartles@iema.net.

We always encourage submissions from a wide range of companies to achieve a balance of topics and perspectives.

Paper guidelines:

  • Use the guidelines specified and submit your proposal in the form

  • Workshops should be informative and interactive and should not include marketing, publicity or promotional material. The presentations will be reviewed prior to the workshop taking place.
  • Please be aware that any copy you provide in the attached form must be accurate, as this will be used in our promotional collateral if your paper is successful
  • Please ensure that your proposed speaker is available on the correct date - 26th November.
  • The deadline for email submissions is 30th April 2008. Any submissions received after this date will not go forward for review by our selection panel.
