Proposals for the Future EIA directive- Implications for Local Authorities 9th April 2013, London

In October 2012 the European Commission launched its proposals to amend the EIA Directive (2011/92/EU). The proposals could have potentially wide ranging impacts in the way that both developers and competent authorities approach their responsibilities imposed by the Directive.

This event is directed primarily at those working for Local Authorities or in the public sector, although may be of interest to all.

Water Security for the East of England – Understanding the Issues and Potential Solutions 2nd October 2012- Cambridge

The aim of this event  was to enable IEMA members to increase their knowledge and understanding of water issues in the UK, with emphasis on the East of England.

They also looked at raising awareness of water related policies, technologies and approaches to improving water efficiency/reducing water demand and identifying how IEMA members might contribute to facilitating the solutions that will address the increasing pressures on water resources.

Renewable Energy: opportunities & barriers to renewable energy technology at the business scale October 2012- Newcastle

There are increasing opportunities for businesses of all sizes to get involved in renewable energy technology, with incentives being available.

Not only does renewable energy offer the potential for businesses to receive an attractive return on their investment, it also helps companies to promote sustainability and protect themselves against future energy price fluctuations. Today’s presentations looked as some solutions and their benefits.

Managing Water- January 2013 Salford University

This event was collaboration between IEMA and The University of Salford which discussed recent innovations in flood management. This has become particularly pertinent, given some of the recent ‘near misses’, which some stakeholders have had following the wettest year on record for England.

Commonwealth Games 2014

Commonwealth Games Event: 2012 will long be remembered for the success of 2012 Olympic Games. Now it’s Glasgow’s turn with the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
 
This event discussed the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), the development of the Athletes Village and the planned legacy of these games.
 

Practitioner views on the EC proposals for the future EIA Directive, January-February 2013

IEMA have taken the opportunity to raise awareness of the EC’s proposals to amend the EIA Directive and develop an understanding of the views of EIA practitioners, planners, developers, statutory bodies and anyone with an interest in EIA across the UK. These workshops have been structured to help us understand this.
