A number of guidance documents have been issued to assist organisations implementing the main schemes and standards.   Freely available guidance is set out below –

BS8555 / Acorn Scheme

Guidance for this officially recognised EMS standard (recommended by the government) is set out below. Acorn offers accredited recognition for organisations evaluating and improving their environmental performance through the phased implementation of an environmental management system (EMS).

Eco-Management and Audit Scheme - EMAS

The European Commission has produced official guidance on EMAS through an official Decision and a Recommendation, which have been published in the Official Journal. In addition, UK guidance has been produced to support users of EMAS. Some of the UK guidance is in draft form and we would welcome feedback from users on its content. Additional guidance is being developed and will be made available on this web site in due course.
