Case studies and Advice Notes

We want to develop a suite of case studies and advice notes to supplement the climate change mitigation (and forthcoming adaptation) & EIA principles. However, to do this we need your help. So why not get involved by responding to:

  1. Call for case studies of considering CC in EIA:

The Institute is looking to gather case studies of the effective consideration of Climate Change (mitigation and adaptation) in all stages of EIA, from screening all the way through to project implementation and monitoring. Case studies will need to highlight a specific aspect of climate change consideration in EIA and will need to be formatted to fit our EIA case study template.

If you have a case study and would be interested in sharing it with other members of the Institute please contact Josh Fothergill at j.fothergill@iema.net for further information.

  2. IEMA seeking members to help develop supplementary CC & EIA Advice Notes:

Whilst the Principles will provide effective direction for EIA practitioners we recognise there will be a need for additional focussed advice on specific aspects of the assessment process and to ensure EIA can be effectively with existing processes for the consideration of climate change in project planning. IEMA is interested in developing short advice notes in the following areas:

    • Scoping CC in EIA
    • EIA: Influencing location and design for cc mitigation & adaptation
    • The use of carbon calculators in EIA
    • Defining CC impact significance in EIA
    • Reporting on CC issues in Environmental Statements
    • Linking EIA & BREEAM
    • EIA, Flood Risk Assessment, and Climate Change

We would be please to hear from members and organisations that would be interested in working with the Institute to develop such advice notes. The documents will be developed on a voluntary basis by small groups of experienced practitioners, managed centrally by IEMA, the guidance will be formatted to fit our EIA advice note template.

Interested in getting involved? Please contact Josh Fothergill at j.fothergill@iema.net for further information.
