Setting up your own business
There are a number of things to consider when setting up a business. The Companies House website, Business Link and contacting the local Chamber of Commerce are all good starting points for making decisions on:
- The type of company - sole trader, partnership, private limited company, etc.
- Legal requirements
- Writing a business plan
- Marketing your business
- Accessing courses and workshops
Networking at IEMA Regional Events with self-employed consultants and practitioners may also provide additional and informal information. Attending Business Link, Chamber of Commerce and local business club events will also provide opportunities for networking and business development.
Qualified accountants and soliciting firms will incorporate a company on an individual's behalf, providing all of required documents and submitting them to Companies House and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Company incorporation agents can be found in the Yellow Pages or via the internet search engines.
